Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after they caught wind of Fraser Forster’s heroics for Celtic in the Betfred Cup final against Rangers.
The 6 foot 7 glovesman – who joined the Bhoys on a season-long loan deal back in the summer – has performed superbly for Neil Lennon’s side this term, making 20 appearances while keeping nine clean sheets and conceding just 13 goals.
Forster – who also has six caps for England – arguably won the Betfred Cup final all by himself on a day where his teammates didn’t really bring their A-game, saving a penalty from Alfredo Morelos while also making an abundance of stops throughout the 90 minutes to earn a 1-0 win.
Southampton decided to temporarily part ways with the ginormous shot-stopper back in the summer after he slipped to third-choice behind Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn, although on the same Sunday that McCarthy made a mistake for Newcastle’s late winner, some Saints supporters on Twitter have been discussing Forster’s heroics.
This particular supporter played down the 31-year-old’s Man of the Match performance against Rangers, calling the glovesman a “poor keeper” who sees 90% of the opponents’ efforts go beyond him.
The fan below ‘CabbageFace’ echoed that opinion, stating that Forster was “useless” at St Mary’s and is now playing in a “pub league” in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic.
However, this fan decided to big Forster up, complimenting one of his many saves against Steven Gerrard’s side.
However, we went back to negativity with this supporter, who mocked Forster’s inability to catch, kick and come off his line while playing for the Saints.
Lastly, these two fans were much more complimentary to their out-on-loan keeper, with one stating that it seems as if Forster is back to his best again while admitting that they wouldn’t mind having him back on the south coast.
The other supporter said that Forster’s efforts against Rangers just go to show what can happen when you have some confidence and support under your belt.
In other news, Hasenhuttl continued to show a lack of faith in this Southampton man in the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle…
