Huddersfield Town won promotion to the Premier League on Bank Holiday Monday as they beat Reading on penalties in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, and it came as a huge blow to Sheffield Wednesday fans.
The Owls came up against the Terriers in the semi-finals of the play-offs after securing a top six finish, but as in the final David Wagner’s side came out 4-3 winners in the penalty shootout to secure their spot in the final.
With Leeds United also missing out on promotion and Hull City suffering relegation to the top flight, it means that Huddersfield will be highest ranked Yorkshire outfit next season.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters were quick to have their say on the promotion for the Terriers via social media, and many of them were gutted as they knew it was very much a case of what might have been.
