Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez received a big honour this week when he was inducted into the League Managers’ Association Hall of Fame and 1,000 Club.
The Spaniard was being celebrated for reaching 1,000 professional games as a football manager.
Claudio Ranieri, Tony Pulis, John Toshack, Sven-Goran Eriksson and Carlo Ancelotti also received the same honour.
Benitez was not at the ceremony held at The Dorchester on Thursday night as he has been preparing his team for the visit of Leicester City at St James’ Park this weekend.
The 57-year-old did, though, film an acceptance speech, which was later posted onto Newcastle’s official Twitter page.
Earlier in the season there were doubts over Benitez’s long-term future at Newcastle, particularly due to the fact that he expressed disappointment during the summer transfer window.
With the club in takeover talks, focus has turned away from the manager’s future.
After the Spaniard received the honour from the LMA, Newcastle fans posted their reaction on social media.
