Aston Villa go into this weekend’s Second City Derby on the back of their best result of the season as they beat Frank Lampard’s in form Derby side.
After a poor start to the season, it seems as though Smith has made an instant impact on the side as they have won three of their last five games in the league.
Following their poor start to the season, Villa needed to pick up their form and now they look like they could well be a dark horse for the title this season.
Going forward, it looks as though Villa have found their feet as Tammy Abraham has hit form while Jack Grealish is starting to play like he did last season.
In terms of talent, Villa arguably have some of the best forwards in the league but in Jonathan Kodjia, they have a forward that is struggling for form and has only scored one goal in 13 matches.
Despite that, Smith has backed the forward but if he doesn’t hit form soon, he must drop him in favour of the resurgent Yannick Bolasie.
The Breakdown
Bolasie replaced Kodjia against Derby and made an instant impact as he provided an assist for the opening goal. It’s been a tough few months for Bolasie as he has been restricted to starting from the bench for all of his 10 league appearances this season.
On form, Bolasie is one of the best players in one on one situations and he should be given a chance if Kodjia fails to perform.
