Centre-back Toby Alderweireld is contracted to Tottenham Hotspur until the summer of 2020, suggesting that there should be no immediate panic when it comes to Belgian international’s future.
Alderweireld, who has previously been linked with Manchester United and Inter Milan, is clearly pining for a new deal at the London club, however, as he seeks parity with the likes of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris when it comes to wages.
The 25-year-old moved to White Hart Lane from Atletico Madrid in 2015 after impressing on loan at Southampton, and it would be fair to call him one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs at this moment in time.
Behind the scenes, Spurs are said to be confident of signing Alderweireld to a new contract, but it is clear that there is some panic with the club’s supporters ahead of the new Premier League season.
On Wednesday, the defender posted an image on Twitter looking ahead to the start of the new campaign, and the Tottenham fans were quick to remind the Belgium international that he has still not signed a new contract.
